The ILC at TVO
Many of you probably know TVO as a producer of
educational television and video, so you might be surprised
to know that we also operate The Independent Learning
Centre (ILC). The ILC creates a myriad of valuable,
educational and training-related products, resources,
and services.
Their latest products are math and science WebITs, which are Flash-based modules that describe a singular, complex topic in an engaging manner. The current objects are designed for secondary students, but more objects are being developed for a greater spectrum of grades and subjects.
The ILC’s suite of services for distance learners
includes:
- Correspondence courses for elementary and
secondary school
- Ask a Teacher, an online homework help service;
- CareerMATTERS, a comprehensive education planning tool
- Learning Skills, an interactive study skills resource for Grade 9 students
- Secondary school study guides, available at Indigo book stores
These unique educational offerings are available for
licensing and sales ventures to corporations, unions,
associations, colleges, universities, as well as other
educational endeavours, such as apprenticeship programs.
